Northern Ireland has launched myEARTH, a new online platform designed to unite families and households with local environmental organisations and activities. Developed by Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful in partnership with Northern Ireland Environment Link (NIEL), myEARTH aims to simplify access to environmental knowledge and encourage active participation in protecting nature.
myEARTH is an easy-to-use digital hub that connects users to a growing network of local changemakers and environmental organisations, including the National Trust, Ulster Wildlife, RSPB NI, and The Weatherbies. The platform offers a variety of local events, activities, and resources designed to inspire community involvement, from beach cleans and wildlife watches to tree planting and recycling projects.
myEARTH’s vision is ‘More Knowledge. More Action. More Change.’ It’s mission statement is:
To empower everyone in Northern Ireland to take action towards tackling the climate and biodiversity crises, by bringing together resources and opportunities from a wide range of partners in one place, leading to real world change.
While myEARTH launches with a focus on seasonal activities and immediate engagement, its long-term vision includes becoming a permanent fixture in Northern Ireland’s environmental strategy. Plans are underway to integrate schools, local councils, and corporate partners to widen participation. Sustainability features—like data collection for impact reporting and volunteer coordination tools—will help track progress and guide future environmental policy.
Discover Local Activities: Families can find events that suit their interests and schedules, with a focus on hands-on environmental action.
Digital Action Cards: These provide step-by-step guides for activities, making it simple for users to get involved and contribute to meaningful change.
Community Building: myEARTH fosters an online community to encourage ongoing participation and shared learning.
myEARTH’s platform is built with accessibility in mind, using mobile-responsive design and intuitive navigation to make it easy for all age groups to engage. The digital infrastructure was developed in consultation with educators, environmentalists, and community organisers, ensuring it serves both casual users and committed environmental advocates. Future updates will include personal progress tracking and educational materials and resources.
Some partners who are involved in myEARTH include:
The launch of myEARTH marks an important step in raising awareness about environmental issues and promoting community-led action across Northern Ireland. It is expected to accelerate digital transformation within the voluntary, community, and social enterprise (VCSE) sector, providing innovative tools and support to strengthen its resilience.
Rachael Thomas, project manager, explained:
“myEARTH breaks down barriers to environmental participation by bringing information and opportunities together on one platform. We want to welcome everyone, not just those already active in environmental causes, to join us in making a positive impact on nature and climate change in their communities.”
Max Bryant, CEO of NIEL, said:
“Our collaboration with Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful through myEARTH extends our mission to connect environmental organisations and highlight their work to a wider audience. We look forward to seeing the platform’s impact through public engagement.”
The project is funded by a £488,557 grant from Dormant Assets NI, delivered by The National Lottery Community Fund, which supports capacity building and sustainability within the VCSE sector. DAERA also supported myEARTH’s concept development.
DAERA Minister Andrew Muir commented:
“myEARTH is a fantastic resource helping communities and individuals across Northern Ireland find and take part in positive environmental actions, from biodiversity to recycling. This collaboration brings essential information together to help everyone make a difference.”
To celebrate the launch, myEARTH is running a Summer ImpACT Competition inviting families to complete one of four eco-themed Action Cards. Participants have the chance to win a National Trust Family Membership. The competition is free to enter and closes on 31 August 2025.
